What Is The Typical Bulldog Rescue Adoption Fee?
I put in an application to rescue a bulldog, and I was contacted yesterday and told there were 2 available. The rescue volunteers had an in-home visit and showed pictures of the dogs and we picked one out. They said the adoption fee was $600. I know these are very expensive dogs, but is this a little high? They said they will hold the check for 30 days to make sure we’re happy with the dog, and it will also come with it’s own crate. Does this sound right?

I agree it seems high. However, there are several factors to take into account. For example, if it’s a younger dog (which it should be at this price) and it’s been neutered, given all its shots, healthchecked, microchipped, etc… if you add up what it would cost you to do all this yourself, it would easily be more. Even the neutering, if done right, would include blood tests, and that’s over $100 right there (this is mainly to make sure the dog would survive the operation).
Also, you won’t have nasty “surprises” like people do when they dont’ go through rescue groups. By this I mean heartworms, parvo, etc….and this can run into the thousands.
Add in the crate and it’s really a good deal.
You’re also, of course, supporting a great cause. Any profit they make will go to help dogs in need.

adoption fees vary among rescues..
for a highly desireable dog, its not uncommon for a rescue to charge a high adoption fee. These are expensive dogs, and someone would be glad to pay $600 for one.. this helps the rescue off-set the costs of rescuing other dogs that may be in poor health and wont be as easy to adopt out.
