What Is The First Step To Take In Adoption?
If an Australian couple wanted to adopt a child (most likely from overseas, as I’ve heard it’s a difficult and long process here) what steps would they need to take? SHould we speak to our lawyer or an adoption agency first? How do we know if an agency is reputable? What else do we need to know?
This is serious question and I would prefer answers only from those who actually know what they are talking about and are familiar with the adoption process.
Thanks.

Hi we’re in Canada and going through that too.
We’ve contacted our provincial adoption agency and just asked. They told us to come to an info session which we are going to do in Nov. The info session is apparently full of ppl like “us” and has tons of info.
They are free too. well at least here

You can look into the agency’s in your area and then research their reputation.
Sometimes an agency can give you a list of references of people who they have placed with a child and you can ask about their experiences.
