My husband and I are looking in to adopting, and we are curious to know the process and requirements for adoption. Any info would be helpful.

We adopted a healthy newborn within a year of starting the process. This is a short time line compared to most people, but I also want people to know that they don’t need to be completely discouraged. Also I think our agency was very ethical, although I know there are abuses in adoption – so check out anyone you’re working with. We also looked into foster care adoption in our county but we discourage by them because they get very few infants or young children for adoption (better chances with an older child or sibling group). We will likely try fost-adopt again in a few years (we are currently outside the US). Our adoption was under $20,000. I know it isn’t cheap but it also doesn’t have to be as expensive as some people say. With domestic adoption you generally wait to be picked by the natural mother, so the wait time can vary widely.

We would need lots more info about what type of adoption you are looking into to give you valid answers. Your first responder is correct on her figures…..as for what the process is and the requirements, that all depends on your state and what tpye of adoption you are looking into. Some countries and state agencies make you be married, be a certain weight, be a certain age, etc…..while others mainly want a valid credit card with lots of available credit. Foster to adopt is free, has all sorts of children, and is the only option I would choose if I wanted an ethical adoption. You can contact your local DSS/DYS/CPS for more info on that program.

Look into the foster care/adoption through you state. The precess isn’t that bad. Time varies by state. There are great kids out there needing great homes & families.
I know Private & international adoption is often outrageously priced, but with your local state things are often free or reimbursable at the end. I know there are wonderful families out there looking to adopt but the fiances keep them from doing so. You shouldn’t have to remorage your home to open it up to a child. Good luck.

Don’t be tricked by adoption agencies, lawyers, and facilitators and be duped into lining their pockets with your hard-earned money. There are very few infants available for adoption. Most women in crisis pregnancies want to keep their babies.
If you are truly want to provide a child a home, please look into foster care.

it’s very expensive, $30,000 – $50,000 depending on whether you do domestic or int’l. and the wait is very long if you want a healthy kid.
even longer for a healthy newborn, and waaaaaaay longer if you want a healthy WHITE newborn, and more-so if you want one of those in the form of a female.
if you go ith us foster care it’s usually free.
