What Can Military Personel Do With Their Pets While Deployed? Are There Adoption Agencies For Them?

I worry about all the dogs, cats, and other pets of military personel, who are left without shelter while their owners are shipped overseas to various parts of the world. Many military members need to put their animals up for adoption (if there are no other choices). How would someone find out where to have them adopted, if only on a temporary basis ?

There are agencies that put your pet in foster care for long or short term time depending on your situation. Then when you get home your pet can come back to you or if you don’t want them anymore and the foster family enjoys them you can give the pet up to them permanently. http://www.animalsheltering.org/resource…
or you can contact local pet stores like petsmart and they should have directories of places that can foster animals to the deployed military or to people who have long term illnesses or other situations that make it to where you can’t properly care for the animal for a short amount of time.

i think it is irresponsible to have a pet if you are in a job like that where you may be sent off for months at a time, unless you have family that can take care of it. my husband is in the army, but i am home to look after our dog, so it is fine.
anyway, they would be able to put the pets in a kennel, if they were willing to spend the money for it.

I am a navy wife, and I never heard off anything for military. Most Navy familys or personel leave there animals with friends or family.

I am registered with a company that arranges foster homes for military pets:http://www.netpets.org/mpfosterpress2.ht…
There are many people willing to foster your animals for one, two, or more years.
Check them out and support this wonderful organization.
