In real life today, a client told me that foster parents are in it for the money. He was dead serious. My jaw dropped. Needless to say, I set him straight.

Some things that I’ve heard, not on here, though, are that kids who are adopted/in foster care would never be able to lead a “normal” life.
I am adopted, and I am leading a normal life.

That children in foster care are not available for adoption. Depending on the jurisdiction, that isn’t the case. You can request to be on a waiting list or a child in foster care whose parents have had their rights terminated. All homestudy and checks still apply.
That children in foster care are always special needs or older or a big challenge.
I’m up for education on this…let’s shatter those myths.

Most recently the comment that ‘Wealthy’ Counties have no children in foster care so there’s no call for foster carers! That was was just ridiculous. Money does not prevent abuse or any other reasons for kids to be taken into care!
The other sad misconception is that nobody is ‘equipped’ to ‘cope’ with foster kids – this is often asserted by people who really haven’t even looked into it because they don’t want to. They seem to think they’re entitled to a fresh-from-the-womb newborn, ‘cos they’re paying good money dontcha know
