What Do You Think Open Adoption Really Means? Do You Agree With Open Adoption Or Not?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

We’re going through adoption now and it seems like open adoption isn’t for us. It seems so invasive to let the birthparents have constant contact with your baby/child. Also, I think that a child can become confused when the birthparents are around. But of course we honor them, they are very special people.

Do You Think It Is Possible For Adoption Workers To Give Unbiased Advice About Adoption?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Adoption workers are paid by hopeful adoptive parents to find them a child (under 2 years of age, preferably an infant). With such a big stake in the adoption being finalized, do you think it is possible for adoption workers to give unbiased advice to either the adoptive parents or the pregnant mother (and the baby’s father)?
How much should they be trusted by adoptive parents?
How much should they be trusted by parents coping with an unexpected pregnancy?

What Do You Think About International Adoption?

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

I am currently in the proces of adopting a child from China. Recently, there has been a lot of debate regarding international adoption. A lot of people ask why I am adopting from another country when there are kids here that need to be adopted. I feel the system in the US is too hard to deal with and that the adoptive parents do not have as many rights as the birthmother. She can decide to not terminate parental rights at any time. It should be her perrogative, but I don’t want to have a failed placement. That’s why I’ve chosen international adoption. What’s your opinion?

How Much Do You Think Parenting And Environment Affects The Outcome Of A Person?

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Basically, nature vs. nurture. Like, do you think a psychopath is born or made? Do you think some of the world’s finest could have turned out to be serial killers if they’d had a different upbringing?
Also, what kind of parenting do you think constitutes “good parenting” or “bad parenting?”

Do You Think The Majority Of Parents Take Parenting Seriously?

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

I’m not talking about you personally. I’m talking about parents in general as a whole. Do you think parents (even when their children are at a young age) practice foresight? Do you think parents really take that responsibility to heart–almost like a job–and do their best?
Now, I’m talking about you. How do you feel about parenting books in general? What is your main concern as a parent? Do you think the parents who do not take parenting seriously will some day have an effect on your own children?
I’m just curious. I’ve been noticing more and more my own awareness of parenting. I’ve been really nervous (as I’m sure many parents are) about what I do now and the effects it will have on my children later. By all means, I’m confident about my parenting abilities and I’m always trying to improve but it’s so hard to figure out fact from fiction when there are so many “experts” out there.
Do you choose to follow an “expert’s” advice? If so, which one and why?
