Is It Better To Euthanize Or Give A Cat Up For Adoption?

My one year old son seems to be allergic to my two cats. We have a heppa filter in his room but the rest of the house seems to give him a rash, runny nose and itchy eyes. Both cats are about 10 years old and aren’t in the best health either…
I’m wondering if it’s more humane to euthanize them or put them up for adoption?
Any help is appreciated!

Well, you don’t give them much choice at their age. Either way, you are killing them. If you bring them at a shelter, they have so many days to get adopted and then, they euthanize them. Plus, do you know what it would do to them to be separated at their age? Poor cats!

You say that he “seems” to be allergic.Have you had him tested to see for sure if it’s the cats and not something else? It could be dust mites, pollen, anything.Just because he has a runny nose and a rash doesn’t mean it’s from the cats.Cat allergies don’t usually cause rashes. But it would be more humane to try to place them together, depending on how severe their health problems are. What’s wrong with them?
Edit: If your son turns out to be allergic, you could always make the cats their own “room” with beds, litterbox, toys,a cat tree, etc.

No, please don’t put them to sleep, they deserve a chance to live also.
Please give them up for adoption.
not trying to be mean, but if the cats were allergic to your son, would you have your son put down, or give him up for adoption, please let them live.
it is so senseless to put them to sleep…….let them live.
    good luck
it does not matter how old they are, let them live. unless they are so sick they cant eat or walk…….

Here is an excellent page for finding a home for your cat:http://purebredcatbreedrescue.org/rehome…
If the situation with your son is urgent in getting the cat out of your house, you can advertise free to good home on Craig’s list.

Put the cats up for adpotion, make sure you get ALL of the cats furr off of everything so your son does not keep sneezing! Give the cats to good adoption center and if you really love them check back on them every once in a while to see if they got adopted and to a good home! =)

please do not have the cat put to sleep, it is not the cat’s fault that your youngen’ has allergies, please place him up for adoption! i am sure a family will adopt him soon. the only time you want to put a love pet to sleep, is when they are critically ill, and you don’t want them to suffer. pls find a good home for your feline. :)

I can see where you are coming from, being that the cats are older…but rescue groups will take them. They will be placed in a home which will reduce stress for them as opposed to a shelter. It is the very least you can do for them.

Talk to your vet. He/she may have some clients who recently lost their cats to illness, etc. There may be someone who will take mature cats and are not looking for kittens. See if they’ll allow you to post a little flier in the office.

Adoption. Its animal cruelty to kill them because of an allergy. You might want to make sure its because he has an allergy to cats before you get rid of them…

There’s no need to euthenize your cats. Bring them to a “No Kill” Shelter.

euthanization should only be for cats who are suffering and have no chance of living, so put them up for adoption

  13. willy444 Says:

At least give them a chance to be adopted.

why would you even consider putting the cats to sleep? they will find someone that wants them and deserve to have a chance
