My friend’s girl tested positive for pregnancy yesterday but she is disputing the results as she says she’s on her menses. Is is reliable to do a pregnancy test during menstruation?

Blood has absolutely, positively, without a doubt NOTHING at all whatsoever (did I stress it enough) to do with a positive or negative urine pregnancy test! A urine pregnancy test detects the amount of the hcg hormone in her urine, and if there is enough hcg to be detected the result is positive. The bleeding that she is having could be due to implantation bleeding (when the ovum attaches itself to the uterus), or some women do actually have a light period their first month after conceiving. If she really wants to know, she needs to go to a doctor to get a blood pregnancy test.

if she is wearing a tampon during the test, then yes, it is reliable.
if she wears pads, and blood gets into the urine sample, it can make the test invalid.
i agree with the others…wait until she’s done bleeding. she may not be menstruating at all if she is pregnant, it could just be spotting or an early miscarriage.

it can happen
best thing to do is take another test after period.
also visit a doctor in case something else has happened

Menses doesn’t affect the B-hcg levels in the urine. Pregnancy test becomes positive soon as placental tissues comes in contact with the maternal blood vessels. False positive results can be due to ectopic pregnancy and H-mole, not menses unless it is really not menses but she’s bleeding because of the pregnancy.
