Depends on who’s there that day and your area. If it’s SPCA you are looking at in between $75-90 for an adult and $100-125 for a puppy. If it’s a private charity like GreyHound Rescues, then it’s $100-150. It’s extremely doubtful you will ever pay over $250 for an adoption anywhere in the country. Since the average puppy in retail stores goes for at the CHEAPEST $600, then it’s really a great deal. Also you will be rescuing an animal for a shelter and that in it’s self is a great thing.
As for finding a yorkie or a yorkie mix, it’s def. a possibility. But you should get there early as the ‘pure’ breeds tend to go fast. Also you could always call ahead to the charity that will be featured and ask if they have any of a particular breed, if they do odds are good that they will be willing to bring it to the local petsmart/petco and hold it for you until a certain time.
I would like to add however that you should def. look at what’s available before commiting to a dog (even if it is a yorkie) sight unseen. Pure breds tend to have far more health problems then ‘mutts’, and mutts tend to have better dispositions. I speak from personal experience here, I almost got a sheltie from SPCA just because it was a sheltie, but when I went to the kennel I didn’t click with the sheltie, but had instant chem. with an adorable eskie/pomeranian mix.
Good luck with your search for a new furry friend, and I hope this advice helps!!

I’m not sure how much it will cost..it depends on the organization..but I would assume somewhere around at least $100. I haven’t seen a Yorkie at one of these events, but it all depends on what they have a available. I hope you find what you are looking for..good luck!

lol, sorry, you aren’t going to find a yorkie at an adoption event at petsmart. You are going to find many heinz 57′s!
I wanna say they charge around $100 for adoption, but not sure. They want to cover the cost of the spay/neuter as well as any other expenses incurred. They are far from free!

Go to Petsmart on the weekend. The humane society usually does the meet and greets on the weekend. Who knows, maybe they could have yorkies.

Ours is $160 includes shots and vet visit. Depends on where you live..I have seen other areas charge less. Depends on the adoption agency working with that specific location and what cost they need to recover

“if you have to ask, you can not afford it”

Probably won’t be able to find yorkies…but good for you for adopting. I believe the fee is about 50-75 dollars….but if you buy a new puppy you have to pay for shots and spay, and that adds up even more.

You might find a yorkie mix, but they are so cute even if they are a mix. Good Luck!

PetsMart and PetCo neither one actually adopt out puppies and kittens. It’s actually the rescue group that handles all that, the stores just give the groups a venue to showcase their animals and find potential homes for the dogs. Prices range from $75 to over $150.
A good resource to check is http://www.petfinder.com It’s a listing of adoption/rescue groups across the country and shows biographies of dogs available for adoption you can narrow the search by your zip code, breed desired, and whether it’s good with kids.
Anyway, good luck on finding the perfect pup for you and your family.

You probably won’t find any Yorkies .. I used to work at PetSmart, and the adoptions were anywhere from $50-$100. Depending on the age/condition/breed.
There were usually bigger mixed breeds.
    ADOPT ONE ANYWAY! They’re cute!

  14. buterfly Says:

These adoptions are handled by independent local humane associations. The adoption fees could be as little as $50 and as much as $200.
It’s unlikely to fine a Yorkie, or a Yorkie puppy. Small dogs and puppies get homes quickly.
Keep an open mind and maybe you’ll find a perfect companion in a different shape and size.

ask the rescue group. It’s them thats in charge not petco.
