How Much Do You Pay For An Adoption Fee Where You Live?

We got a mutt from the dog shelter and we had to pay a AU$350 adoption fee.
At that particular shelter their dogs range from AU$200 to $450 depending on age and type. I think it’s much the same at the other shelters around my area.

Like yours, the price depends on the age and type, as well as if the animal is fixed. It can vary from $40 (kittens) to $250. $250 is the highest I’ve seen, and that was for a purebred Lab with gundog training who’d already been neutered.

Wow very high. Here in California, shelters usually charge between $50-$150 US for a dog. Purebred rescues often ask more, perhaps $200 on average.

  3. Ani Says:

Between $80 and $250 depending on the shelter.
If the dog isn’t spayed or neutered before it leaves the shelter, there is a $50 to $100 refundable deposit fee once the adopter gets the surgery done.

Gosh, that sounds like an awful lot if you ask me, but I don’t how to convert Australian money into U.S. money.
I paid $95 for my Aussie mix three years ago. I adopted her from Petco which works with the Broward County, Florida Humane Society. She was 8 weeks old when I adopted her. That price included having her spayed, the first vet visit and first round of shots,as well as the cost of her rabies vaccine when she was old enough to get it.

I recently adopted a 2 year old Australian Shepherd from an Aussie rescue organization and the adoption fee was $200. I’m not sure about the adoption fees at shelters or other rescue groups, however.

50.00 – 250.00$ depends on what area you live in. I have seen some for 35.-100.$ at adoption fairs.
    Live in the south

At the RSPCA Shelter where I volunteer its $195 to adopt a dog. That includes Veterinary check, microchipping, desexing, vaccination and worming.
I think its a pretty good price considering you can pay more than that just to have them desexed. I also think its a great idea that theyre making sure theyre desexed before they go out to their new homes.

We pay anywhere from $100.00 – an older dog to 350.00 US for a purebred pup, usually 250.00 is the right amount. They come with shots and usually a neutering, hope this helps.

  13. Rainbow Chaser Says:

    I have seen $100 to $400 at a shelter.
Rescues were going at least $300.

  14. Wolf Grrl Says:

Regularly the dogs here are $65.00 but this week they are having a “clearance” sale so any dog mentioned in last weeks paper is $40.00 its a tiny shelter and is becoming over populated and dont they want to kill (gas) the dogs, so they lowered the price to get them out of the shelter. About 45 min drive to the next state, the adoption fee is $30.00 for vaccinated pups. (It depends on the areas you live in)

It depends on the rescue and the amount of vet costs they put into the dog to get him to the adoptionn stage. Most rescue groups will charge anywhere from $100 to $500 as an adoption fee. I paid $175 for a 7 year old german shepherd, and $250 for a 6 month old german shepherd/husky mix.
