Any good name brand one will give you an answer within just a couple of days.
If you're looking to save money though, I tried one from "the dollar store" while I was pregnant, and it came out correct - so I guess you don't need to spend the big bucks...

First Response can usually detect HCG up to 5 days before your missed period. It will say it on the packet how early you can test. Make sure you buy one that says you can test early otherwise it probably won't work. Generally you are supposed to test on the first day of your missed period.
Good luck xx

I asked my doctor how soon a pregnancy test can detect pregnancy and he said 10-14 days after conception. Most tests are about the same, some just will catch a lesser amount of HCG. Usually the box will say how early you can test, however, if you test too early it will come up negative even if you are pregnant. You can always go to the dollar store and buy 10 of them for the price of 2 of the expensive ones, they are just as accurate.

Many home pregnancy kits claim that it can detect results as early as the first day of a missed period. However, in order to attain a very reliable result, it is good to test only a week after a missed period. Home pregnancy kits work by detecting the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone is produced only after the egg has attached to the uterine lining. The amount of hCG in the body rapidly increases during the first two weeks of pregnancy. These tests are able to detect as little as 50 to 150 mIU/ml of HCG in the urine. It is best to test in the morning because your urine may contain a high concentration of hCG at this time. If you wish to test early, a more sensitive test can be done at your doctor’s office because hCG in the blood appear as early as 24-48 hours after implantation.
Hope this helps!
