Do Any Adoption Agencies Exist That Are Open To Vegan Adopting Parents?

I’m looking for an adoption agency that is open to adoptive parents that are totally open about their vegan diet. Are you a vegan looking to adopt? Are you a vegan who has successfully adopted? I’d like to hear from you! Thanks.

My wife and I successfully adopted a child from Romania and the topic of our diet was not mentioned once. We are not completely vegan and our healthy lifestyle has never been an issue. I’m wondering why you are making it one.
If the agency challenges the fact that you are a vegan, I would just be prepared with evidence showing that a low-fat, low-carb vegan diet is the healthiest diet around for kids and for their parents. Be prepared. Good reference sources include Dr. Dean Ornish. Studies show that milk/dairy is not the best source of calcium. We eat leafy green vegetables for calcium, often prepared as a green smoothie in a blender. I’d make sure that you can explain how to complete protein requirements with legumes and brown rice. Explain the value of raw, whole fruits and vegetables. The typical Western diet as promoted on TV is clearly unhealthy.
It’s always possible that your case worker might become uptight about veganism. If so, you might want to make sure that your physician can fully back up your lifestyle. My physician is delighted that I eat a healthy, well-balanced vegan and raw foods diet. And he loves that I get enough aerobic exercise.
With your physician’s support and endorsement, that case worker should just slip away with a little embarrassment. He or she is not an expert on diet, but he or she should respect expert professional opinions.

Adoption agencies don’t care if you are vegan or not. You just have to prove that you are capable of caring for the child and meeting all of his or her needs. Granted, they child you adopt may initially complain about the diet change if you adopt an older child, but other than that I don’t see there will be an difference. Make sure you have some fake meats, macaroni, and other such foods that are more like what the child is used to at first to help them make the transition.
